Natural Dyes Wisdoms
HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya has directed the “Sustainable Fashion” initiative towards promoting eco-friendly practices in Thai fabric production with Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Interior’s Ladies Association, and the working team of “Pha Thai Sai Hai Sanook”, aspiring to advance the wisdom of Thai fabrics in a greener direction. The goal is to encourage collaboration between entrepreneurs and weavers to use natural dyes from plants and natural ingredients in their community for a more environmentally friendly process, aligning with His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great’s Sufficient Economy philosophy.
With profound appreciation for HRH The Princess’s intelligence and vision, Community Development Department, Ministry of Interior has diligently executed projects that aim to foster self-reliance among entrepreneurs and weavers throughout their entire production process, from inception to completion.
The wisdom of natural dyeing, inherited from ancestors closely connected to nature, involves extracting various colors from almost every part of plants, including roots, bark, stems, wood, leaves, flowers, fruits, and seeds. These dyes are derived from indigenous plants such as ebony, indigo, pomegranate, khe, kankrao, which can be combined to create new colors.
