Donkoi Model to the Global Market Project
Donkoi Model to the Global Market Project
The Donkoi Model to the Global Market Project is a project under the umbrella of “Sustainable Fashion,” a royal initiative of HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya. Its aim is to serve as a comprehensive role model for community artisans’ groups, leveraging local wisdom in textile arts and crafts for global markets. Led by Community Development Department, Ministry of Interior, the participating communities have developed indigo fabrics with contemporary touches, revitalized traditional dyeing techniques using natural resources from their surroundings, and introduced fresh perspectives for Thai fabrics through marketing and packaging strategies.
During HRH The Princess visit to Donkoi’s Indigo Weaving Group in Phanna Nikhom district, Sakon Nakhon province, HRH The Princess witnessed a demonstration of the inherited indigo fabric dyeing process, utilizing hues from natural materials. HRH The Princess suggested to the local weavers of Ban Donkoi to tone down the dark indigo color for a more modern touch that would appeal to global markets. This initiative aims to upgrade local wisdom, thereby creating more jobs and new opportunities for locals to grow in their community sustainably.
