Thai indigo-dyed textiles represent a treasured heritage. Woven from locally cultivated silk and cotton, they are prepared with natural colors using ancient knowledge. Rooted in long-held experience and traditions, they appeal to admirers of artisanal work, and are distinguished by their unique, inimitable character.

The Community Development Department, Ministry of Interior, is committed to preserving and advancing Thai wisdom in the context of contemporary global trends. Guided by the Fun with Thai Fabric and Sustainable Fashion initiatives of HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, artisans connect traditional skills with modern fashion, to create employment and income, and ensure the continuity of this heritage.

The Kraam International Symposium 2025 – as part of the Indigo Fabric Development for Global Product Innovation Project – aims to bring Thai indigo craftsmanship to the global stage, by integrating the expertise of master weavers with contemporary perspectives from leading designers. The symposium’s goal is to foster dialogue among international specialists, and t offer diverse cultural insights into indigo as a symbol connecting cultures, the creative economy, and environmental and economic sustainability.

The publication of “HANDS ACROSS CULTURE” Kraam International Symposium 2025 by the Community Development Department, Ministry of Interior, documents the symposium’s outcomes. It serves as a repository of knowledge and inspiration, presenting insights from indigo textile design and contemporary product development, to collaborative approaches among weavers, designers, academic institutions, and businesses.
