Ethnic Model Project

Ethnic Model Project

Thailand has long been home to diverse ethnic groups, each contributing to unique traditions and ways of life. Among these is the local wisdom of weaving and fabric creation, which evolved through knowledge exchange along ancient trade routes and the spread of religions. With skilled hands and creative minds, weavers crafted intricate and distinctive fabrics, reflecting the beliefs, traditions, lifestyles, and histories of each ethnic group.

The mission of Community Development Department is to promote manufacturers and entrepreneurs to innovate contemporary fabrics and products inspired by local wisdom, gaining recognition both domestically and internationally. This initiative has created jobs and income, strengthening community economies in alignment with HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya’s royal initiatives, “Pha Thai Sai Hai Sanook” and “Sustainable Fashion.” The Ethnic Model Project reflects the beauty, traditions, beliefs, values, and uniqueness of each community through the woven fabrics of Thai ethnic groups.

The Ethnic Model Project aimed to revive local wisdom in creating ethnic fabrics with the potential to be efficiently elevated to the global market. The project began by integrating knowledge from selected ethnic groups and collaborating with the specialist team of “Pha Thai Sai Hai Sanook,” including Thai fabric experts, leading designers, modern marketing specialists, and professionals from related fields. This initiative coached and equipped manufacturers and entrepreneurs to craft ethnic fabrics with a contemporary touch, positioning them effectively for the international stage.
