Growing Mulberry Trees

HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya has continued the legacy of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great’s Sufficiency Economy philosophy with the royal “Sustainable Fashion” initiative, aiming to foster self-reliance among villagers by ensuring a sustainable supply of silk for their entire production through the cultivation of mulberry trees.
The benefits of mulberry tree cultivation extend beyond feeding silkworms for silk production. They also enrich the lives and economies of villagers and weavers in the expanding landscape of Thai silk industry.
Mulberry trees thrive in warm climates with loamy soil, deep topsoil, and good drainage. The northeastern region of Thailand cultivates at least 20 varieties of mulberry trees, including Mon Noi, Mon Ta Dam, Mon Jak, Mon Mee, Mon Phai, Mon Som, Mon Som Yai, Mon Soi, Mon Bai Pho, and Mon Kaew Satuk.
