Natural Dye Handwoven Cotton
Natural Dye Handwoven Cotton
Phak Kham Phu Bark Dyed Cotton Weaving Group in Sakon Nakhon Province has embraced the royal “Sustainable Fashion” initiative by crafting handwoven cotton fabrics dyed with natural bark colors. Initially used for household purposes, subsequent generations have turned this tradition into a livelihood opportunity, leveraging the abundant cotton resources of Phak Kham Phu village, home to unique handwoven cotton fabrics.
As inherited, the tradition of making handwoven cotton fabric entails spinning cotton bolls into threads by hand before weaving them into fabric. The resulting material boasts a soft, airy texture.
The group’s development focuses on creating sustainable livelihoods. They adhere to sufficiency principles such as mixed cotton cropping and community forest planting, all aimed at cultivating natural resources for natural dyes. This approach reflects the community’s harmonious coexistence with nature.
