Growing Cotton

HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya emphasizes the creation of environmentally friendly fabrics and products, following the principles of “Sustainable Fashion” initiative. HRH The Princess has directed local communities to revive the cultivation of indigenous silk trees to enable weavers to be self-reliant in terms of silk resources.
Cotton threads are notable to their softness, breathability. Cotton trees are also resilient to drought. The most valuable part of the cotton tree is the “cotton boll,” a light green pod that produces cotton fibers. The pod changes to a darker color when it is ripe, and inside are white cotton silk threads. These threads are spun into yarn and woven into fabric.
