Carbon Credit

Carbon Credit

Under the sustainable development partnership, Ministry of Interior, together with United Nations in Thailand and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, has established 14,658 “Waste Banks” and introduced “Wet Trash Cans: Reducing Global Warming for Households’ across every local administration organisation. These efforts have exemplified effective waste management in 878 districts across 76 provinces, benefiting about 14 million households through waste separation and greenhouse gas reduction. This initiative steps towards carbon credit trading. Supported by Kasikorn Bank with 3,140 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent worth 816,400 THB and Thai Beverage PLC, along with other organisations, the initiative has currently sold carbon credits worth 2.5 million THB. These actions align with Thailand’s crucial goals to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065.
A “carbon credit” is a tradable tool resulting from greenhouse gas reductions and the control of carbon dioxide emissions. It is used in projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gases or promoting green spaces. Individuals or organisations that reduce their emissions receive these credits, which can then be traded with others committed to reducing their environmental impact.
Ministry of Interior advances “Establishing Waste Banks for All Local Administration Organisations” Project to repurpose recyclable waste, reducing greenhouse gases from massive garbage dumps while generating income and promoting community welfare. It’s a key to achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) by managing waste at its source and cutting the country’s waste management costs.
