HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya initiated the Fun with Thai Fabric project to foster Thai craftsmanship, bring sustainable income to local communities, and gain international recognition for Thai fabrics, with designs for all ages and for all occasions.<\/p>\n

The Community Development Department, Ministry of Interior, has expanded the project nationwide, integrating local knowledge with contemporary fashion trends, to improve the skills and capacities of artisans and OTOP entrepreneurs. The Royal Fabric Motif Contest is a key driver in this aim, safeguarding the nation\u2019s cultural heritage in the modern world.<\/p>\n

HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya visits and offers encouragement to weavers and artisans in every region of the country, offering guidance on developing contemporary fabrics and handicrafts. HRH The Princess has invited experts in Thai fabric development, leading designers, and distinguished specialists to join the Fun with Thai Fabric working group, to integrate specialized knowledge, convey concepts, and share professional experience with weavers, artisans, and young people interested in Thai fabrics. This initiative extends and embellishes ancestral wisdom, passing it to a new generation to ensure a sustainable quality of life for families and communities.<\/p>\n

HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya has created new motifs based on those found in traditional Thai fine arts, referencing historical and cultural records and the natural world. These modern motifs are designed to have global appeal while preserving the unique elegance of Thai artistic heritage. The Princess Sirivannavari’s Sirirajapastraporn Motif was designed by HRH The Princess on the occasion of her receiving an honorary doctorate from Thammasat University\u2019s Department of Textile and Fashion Design, for the 2023 academic year.<\/p>\n

The Princess Sirivannavari’s Sirirajapastraporn Motif comprises four designs for Yok, Jok, Khit, Praewa, Mudmee, and Batik. These motifs can be combined with traditional designs, thus encouraging artisans to create fabrics and handicrafts according to their own artistic style, and with their own unique touch. The motifs are an integral part of the Sustainable Fashion initiative, which emphasizes the use of natural materials and dyes from local botanicals, being both environmentally friendly and safe for makers and wearers.<\/p>\n

The Community Development Department, Ministry of Interior, received permission to organize the Royal Fabric Motif Contest, incorporating the Princess Sirivannavari’s Sirirajapastraporn Motif and Handicraft, in 2025. This competition encouraged weavers, artisans, and entrepreneurs to enhance their creative capacity, and in total 8,903 entries were submitted, comprising 8,336 fabric designs and 567 handicraft products.
